Maya

Hi! My name is Maya and I study Sustainability Science in Utrecht. In 2019, I obtained my secondary diploma in Natural Sciences in Luxembourg which is where I grew up before moving to Utrecht. I have work experience in many domains but have always enjoyed teaching the most. In the past I have given lessons in maths, French, German, English and biology. Even so I have mostly tutored younger children, I would appreciate working with people my age just as much.

Motivatie

Tutoring is great because I get to spend time getting to know a person's learning process and difficulties and ultimately experience their progress first hand. That can be very rewarding and also teaches me some things, for example when I have to get creative to find fun exercises for younger children or students afraid of numbers. After a fruitful tutoring lesson both student and tutor leave feeling satisfied and that's why I do it.

Mijn aanpak

I try to create a trusting and friendly relationship with the student to put them at ease and make the lesson more fun. If they are younger I will first talk with a parent about how they think the child is doing and where they need help the most. I then start the tutoring by assessing their level through exercises and conversation about how they feel they're doing. The lessons are part exercises focusing on specific shortfalls that are repeated every meeting, and part new exercises to keep it refreshing. However I don't follow the exact same program for two students and always incorporate their wishes. My qualities as a teacher are that I am patient and empathetic but also rigorous when needed.
